Dr. Beer is a native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Dr. Beer received his Bachelor of Arts from Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, with a major in Biochemistry.

Dr. Beer received his Doctor Of Medicine from The University of Iowa and later completed a residency in family medicine.

Dr. Beer currently practices General Family Medicine in Hiawatha, Iowa.

Dr. Beer is married to Janette. They have one daughter Meredith (age 2), and a second "daughter" Mattie (Yorkshire Terrier).
